The VIR2EM Project
VIR2EM stands for Virtualization and Remotization for Resilient and Efficient Manufacturing.
The project was designed with the desire to exploit technologies for virtualization and remotization of business processes, with three main objectives:
– Optimizing production systems as much as possible.
– Guaranteeing the standards of operation and efficiency even in emergency situations.
– Increasing flexibility and predictive capacity in business processes, especially in the context of a return to normal production after emergency situations.
The VIR2EM project is based on a close collaboration between companies and entities active in research – specifically, the Universities of Padua, Verona, and Venice.
For partner companies, VIR2EM opens up the possibility to create relationships in the territory and partnerships with other companies that can support technological innovation projects. It is not just about customer-supplier relationships, but relationships between entitieshat wish to share skills and knowledge.
The results at the end of the project
VIR2EM assures an extensive process of product digitalization and system creation to exploit collected data, which will improve the standards of quality, efficiency, and productivity. This is also possible thanks to increasing automation of machinery produced by the company.
The partner companies create and maintain the know-how of these processes and of the data collection system. This means that this know-how can be continuously improved, with further advantages.
Another interesting advantage is sustainability: the exploitation of technologies for data and process control makes the optimization of production performances possible, also in terms of energy saving and resource management.
My role in the Project
My involvement in the VIR2EM project is shared into two distinct activities.
First of all, I collaborate with the Italian company Santex Rimar Group, which is one of the big players in the world market for the production of looms, machinery for technical textiles, finishing machinery, and machinery for the drying of sludge. One of the main strengths of the company is the Research and Development department, in which the company invests heavily with the aim of improving the efficiency of business processes.
In this context, my role is to manage all VIR2EM support for the project management, monitoring, and reporting. I also supported the company in the preparation of the proposal and budget together with the other partners.
Secondly, I work with the IMPROVENET Consortium on the digital communication and marketing part of the project and the network.
